But what I want to say is that it is not a constant feeling of vacation or vacation. There are days when things feel more like work and effort than an actual vacation. This took me a bit of getting used to, particularly early on.

But it can also be a good thing. It keeps your experience a little more real and helps you grow as a person.

And that’s how it should be.

Travel Facts #2: You Are Not Untouchable

By this I mean always remember that you are NOT above the law, especially in the cheaper third world countries.

I see it so often when I am abroad.

You will see westerners acting a bit out of control. Drink too much and cause a disturbance somewhere.

Remember, when you are in different cultures, you have to respect whatever culture it is. Don’t go getting drunk and yelling at the locals or throwing up in the streets.

Try to blend in as much as possible and not be it’s An obnoxious tourist that everyone shakes their heads at!

I know people who have been arrested, and it’s not funny and funny when it happens to you abroad.

Travel Facts #3: There is downtime. Get used to it and accept it

Traveling is not always go, go, go! There is a lot of downtime and you might get bored from time to time.

Know this and use the time to your best advantage.

it’s the best time Do nothing or just be with yourself.

No, you don’t have to go into a monk state and fully embrace the zen life. But relax a bit and enjoy the time with yourself.

Traveling can be exhausting at times, so whenever you find yourself having some quiet time, use it to get some rest and recuperate. Read a book, learn something new, or just be alone with your thoughts.

When the time comes when you’re super busy, you wish you could have embraced downtime more! So make sure you put it to good use.

Travel Facts #4: You’ll be alone quite often. It can be awesome!

I think before I traveled, I had hardly ever spent time alone for more than a few minutes!

Everyone I knew growing up, myself included, saw being alone as sad. It was something neither of us wanted to do, and whenever I was alone for a few minutes, I would start to feel a little awkward and uncomfortable.

How has that changed, thanks to travel!

You will often find yourself alone. Whether it be in your hostel or backpacking, on a plane or train, or even going out to eat.

Don’t worry though!

I promise you will love it after a while. And eventually you will start to crave alone time.

I just know you’re going to be lonely at some point, but it’s the best thing you can do and it really allows you to grow as a person.

Are you one of those people who already feels comfortable being alone for long periods of time? Or are you still at that point like I was before traveling?

Travel Facts #5: Things Will Go Wrong At Some Point

Many things have not gone well for me during the trip, such as:

  • Bank cards that do not work abroad;
  • Miss my plane, train or bus;
  • Struggling to find accommodation;
  • Losing passports or valuables;
  • physically hurting yourself;
  • Trust someone you shouldn’t.

These things happen. But it’s okay, believe me.

Why you MUST travel

I recently published an article about the Ten reasons why you should travel. You can find that article. here.

I will always and forever recommend travel to everyone I meet.

You really do NOT have to be a certain type of person to do it. It’s for anyone and everyone and anything in between.

I know many people often tell me that they are “not adventurous enough” or “traveling is not in their budget” etc. This couldn’t be further from the truth.

There is many reasons to travel Here are a few that have occurred to me:

  • You learn to deal with stressful situations. This is so true! And the best thing is when you finally get into a situation and calmly get away with it. Progress!
  • It’s fun as hell! Duh. It’s amazing, which is why most of us have a hard time stopping once we start!
  • You learn to stretch a budget. Another good lesson that you can learn from traveling and implement it in your normal daily life. You’ll be surprised how far a few dollars can sometimes go.
  • You build confidence in yourself. Probably the biggest thing I’ve taken from traveling. Self-confidence really can and does help you in all aspects of life.

Can you think of any good reason why we should travel? Perhaps something from a personal experience that has had a positive impact on your life?

My conclusion

If you’re itching to get out there and change your life a bit, then go ahead and do it! I don’t regret it, I promise.

Yes, traveling, and the whole world can be scary. Things can go terribly wrong, and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. But just know and accept that this can happen, and go for it!
